THE INN ASSISTANT

Niels Fiil

1920 – 1944

Niels Fiil was the son of Marius and Gudrun Fiil. Right from being very young, Niels helped his parents to run the inn and its farm. The idea was that Niels would take over both. He returned home on 1 April 1943 from the Ladelund Agricultural College and joined the drop site group Marius was forming based in Hvidsten and Spentrup.

Niels took part in the group's operations receiving parachutists, weapons and explosives at the Mustard Point drop site. He was also involved in helping illegal refugees and wanted persons. When drops were suspended due to German interest in the area in the autumn of 1943, Niels and his friend and co-member of the group, Johan Kjær Hansen went to Aalborg to learn how to make hand grenades.

Niels was arrested by the Gestapo on 11 March 1944. He was sentenced to death by a military tribunal on 26 June 1944.
